Frank Eckart

Frank Eckart lives and works in Berlin. His freelance practice focuses on writing, archival research, and investigations into contemporary art and the cultural developments of the twentieth century. He collaborates with individual artists and works with galleries—including, since 2007, on the establishment and development of the archive of the gallery Galerie EIGEN + ART—as well as with public and non-profit institutions such as the Anne Frank Zentrum in Berlin and the art collection of the Fürst Donnersmarck Foundation. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bremen with a dissertation entitled Between Refusal and Establishment (Zwischen Verweigerung und Etablierung) on independent spaces and productions in the visual arts of the GDR during the 1980s. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Association Internationale des Critiques d’Art (AICA), German Section.
