Marcin Lachowski, dr. hab., (b. 1975) teaches at the Department of Art and Modern Culture at Warsaw University, where he is a scholar of contemporary art and critical art history. He is the author of Awangarda wobec instytucji. O sposobach prezentacji sztuki w PRL-u [Avant Garde and the Institution: On Displaying Art in the People’s Republic of Poland, 1945-1960] (2006), and Nowocześni po katastrofie. Sztuka w Polsce w latach 1945-1960 [Moderns in the Wake of Catastrophe: Art in Poland, 1945-1960] (2013). He co-edits the book series Sztuka nowa. Źródła i komentarze [New Art: Sources and Commentary] and several other publications (Grupa “Zamek.” Historia–krytyka–sztuka [The Zamek Group: HistoryCriticismArt]; Grupa “Zamek.” Konteksty–wspomnienia–archiwalia [The Zamek Group: ContextsMemorie Documentation]; Wobec Formy Otwartej Oskara Hansena. Idea–utopia–reinterpretacja [On Oskar Hansen’s Open Form: IdeaUtopiaReinterpretation]; Mikołaj Smoczyński–retrospektywnie [Mikołaj SmoczyńskiIn Retrospect]). In 2011, he joined a research group funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on critical Polish art of the 20th and 21st centuries. He is currently preparing two handbooks on critics and art criticism. He has collaborated with the Lublin Museum and Lublin Fine Arts Association [Lubelskie Towarzystwo Zachęty Sztuk Pięknych]. He curated exhibitions such as Grzegorz Kowalski i Pracownia [Grzegorz Kowalski and his Studio], Obiekty i projekcje [Objects and Projections] (Lublin, 2008); Siła Sztuki [The Strength of Art] (Lwowski Pałac Sztuki, 2010); Mikołaj Smoczyński–retrospektywnie [Mikołaj SmoczyńskiIn Retrospect] (Lublin 2011); Pankiewicz i po…Uwalnianie koloru [Pankiewicz and Beyond…Color Unleashed] (Lublin 2016). His writing has appeared in publications such as Biuletyn Historii Sztuki, Roczniki Humanistyczne, Ikonotheka, Kresy, Znak, and numerous exhibition catalogs. He is a member of the Association of Art Historians.
